about the designer Striking the perfect balance between Art and Science It’s not surprising that Dane` grew up to be an artist and lighting designer. Her grandmother was a dress designer from Milan in the 1920’s, her parents were both talented musicians of the 40s, and her stepfather was an electrical engineer who taught her the practical uses of electricity. (in fact, she built a light bulb from raw materials for a 4th Grade Science project) Who knew that the two worlds of art and science would ultimately collide

"Welcome to my world of texture, color and transitional light... I am privileged to do what I do… playing in color and light all day long. I am inspired by very simple things- the way a Winter light falls over the Autumn leaf as it changes colors and turns into sugar...or seeing the morning fog as it nestles into the Jackson Bottom Wetlands* and low hills by my home. I eagerly await the challenge of blank canvases - and the collaboration between Art and Science." * The Jackson Bottom Wetlands and Wildlife Preserve is a 725-acre wildlife preserve located within the city limits of Hillsboro, Oregon. The Preserve is a tranquil sanctuary for hundreds of Birds and NW Creatures.
Raised in the Northwest, her childhood was filled with music and art. After receiving her BA in Fine Arts, Dane worked as a painter and an educator. Ultimately receiving her Masters Degree, she began working as a creative director at a prominent Portland Ad agency and was enterprising enough to open her own firm which focused on the Hospitality Industry Her decades as one of Portland’ s premiere advertising executives and graphic designers is marked by several awards including several coveted Rosies – awarded by the Portland Ad Federation for creative excellence in design. Yet the desire to practice her fine arts never left.

"The Sconces Dane' created have added a new dimension and excitement to our large great room and home. She captured the essence of our lifestyle and designed beautiful and luminescent wall art - we absolutely love them!" Mr & Mrs. M. Hagg, Portland, OR
| Back to her Roots In 1999, Dane made the decision to use her fine arts skills and lighting background and began to create light fixtures with unusual and various textiles. Combined with her understanding of the psychology and the emotional qualities of light, she began creating a multitude of textures to build original shapes, designs, and ultimately task driven fixtures. She found that significant variations in light caused by diverse materials had a dramatic emotional impact on a room’s environment, and she could create and alter moods with her one of kind fixtures. This passion and the collaboration of light, color, and texture, have made the light fixture Dane's preferred canvas. Designing for the Future Raised with an appreciation for her natural surroundings, and never satisfied with the 'VANILLA' shades of the world, in 2005 Dane' developed sustainable lighting solutions . She continues to create very special pieces that are interesting, task driven and friendly to our environment. She makes aesthetic sense of LEED lighting requirements, ensuring that every project is looked at through the lens of sustainability - and each fixture is a luminescent work of art. On the Horizon Dane' is always designing and developing new versions of light fixtures. Her pieces continue to be contemporary, full of warmth and livable appeal.
